CORGI Replaced By Gas Safe Register
As of April 2009, the new Gas Safe Register replaces the CORGI gas installer scheme as Great Britain’s gas safety authority.
By law, from April, only Gas Safe Register engineers should be employed to carry out work on gas installations or appliances – CORGI gas registration will not be valid. Keeping the public safe is Gas Safe Register’s top priority. If someone other than a Gas Safe Register engineer carries out gas work at your home, you could be risking the safety of your family and your property.
Simple Gas Safe Verification
Checking that an engineer is Gas Safe Registered will be simple. From April, you will be able to check that an engineer is on the Gas Safe Register online at www.gassaferegister.co.uk – or by calling 0800 408 5500.
Gas Safe Register Identity Cards
Registered companies can be identified by the yellow Gas Safe Register logo that can appear on their stationery and in advertising.
In addition, every engineer will carry a Gas Safe Register ID card (as shown opposite) with their own unique number.
On the front of the card you will find:
- Licence number.
- Start date.
- Expiry date.
- Security hologram.
On the back of the card you will find:
- The kinds of work this engineer is qualified to carry out.
- The expiry dates of their qualifications.
